Lyndsey Davies began her weight loss programme on 17th October 2007. These are her e-mails keeping Julie informed of her progress:

Just to let you know that I have not touched anything sweet yet and I have lost 4lbs already! I keep thinking about having something on an evening but after a few minutes it goes away. I am doing well with the water too. Feeling really pleased and optimistic at the moment, so hopefully by the time I see you again I will have lost more weight.

It’s the end of week two and all is going well. I have lost 6lbs now in total. I still haven’t touched anything sweet. In fact, I went to a party on Saturday night, and there was a bowl of chocolates on the table. I was not tempted to even have one - a couple of weeks ago I would have sat and eaten the lot! Looking forward to my second appointment on Wednesday, and to continue to lose weight.
15 November 2007 (previous two weeks)
I went to blackpool for the day and it is the first time I have ever been to the coast for the day and not succummed to ice cream and donuts! I had fish and chips for lunch as usual, because I'm not on a diet, and to eat them maybe 3 times a year is not a problem. But normally this would be followed by an ice cream, donuts and fudge to bring home. The rest of my family had these things but I did not bother, I just didn't feel the need to have them. It's not like in the past when I have been on a diet, where I would refuse and then be watching everyone else eating theirs, feeling like I was depriving myself. I happily watched everyone else eat them and felt fine about it. The even better thing is that I still lost weight that week even though I had the fish and chips!
Having got into a routine of going to the gym and eating better, my daughter got chicken pox. I was really worried that I would not lose weight not being able to go to the gym and being practically housebound but I did! In the past, if I had been stuck at home I would have eaten anything and everything out of boredom. This simply did not happen. I continued to eat just as I have done since seeing Julie for the first time.
I have completely stopped eating sweets and chocolate, am drinking more water and eating more fruit and veg. The only snacks I have now between meals are fruit, nuts and the odd yoghurt. If I had been stuck at home 5 weeks ago, I would have pigged out on chocolate, biscuits, bread and butter, cheese - just about anything to keep my hands busy! In 4 weeks I have lost 8lb, and this includes a week and half of no activity at all other than housework. I am confident that this will continue as I am not craving foods as I would have done on diets.

I had to let you know this one!
I have bought a water filter jug. I fill it up every morning, and have a fruit smoothie with my breakfast while it is filtering. I then leave the jug on the kitchen worktop and constantly fill my glass throughout the day. By making sure I drink the full jug before I go to bed, I know I have had the right amount of water. (I kept losing count of how many glasses I had had before.) Two good things have come out of this besides getting loads of water. Firstly I have cut out all the tea I was drinking - about 4 cups a day. Secondly, my skin is better and I have lost another 2lbs, which I'm sure is down to the water retention I had.
Funnily enough, I seem to be more thirsty and able to drink the water now. I dont feel like I am having to force myself to drink it.
I feel great and really positive for my future weight loss.

Things are still going great. We went out for a meal last week, to Thai Edge. Everyone was having desert, so I thought I would treat myself. I ordered a scoop of chocolate ice cream which tasted absolutely delicious, but I only ate a third of it! That's a third of one scoop of ice cream! It wasn't because I was full either, I could have eaten more. I just didn't want to. Our friends looked at me in amazement - and then finished it off for me.
On a more depressing note - I have a slipped disc in my back, so I am really house bound at the moment, even cleaning is very difficult. Due to this I have not managed to weigh myself, but I am confident that even with no exercise I will still lose because I am eating less and drinking more water still.
4 January 2008
I have not been in touch for a while because I have not had much to tell. Last time I emailed it was to say I had hurt my back. Well it turned into sciatica and I could literally do nothing for about 4 weeks. I am still not back at the gym because my leg is still not right. Therefore I haven't really lost weight.
The good news though is that I haven't put any on either! I am still really positive that this has worked for me because I am still sticking with everything. I have had a little chocolate over Xmas, but nothing much, and I have been in control of things. The things you worked on with me are still with me, otherwise I would have piled weight on being immobile for so long!
Anyway, I will fill you in properly next week. Looking forward to seeing you again next Weds.

Just thought I would let you know how I am getting on. I'm now down to 12st making it a stone and half off so far! I feel great, and people are noticing now that I have lost weight. I am so motivated at the moment. I go to the gym 4 days a week without fail, and my diet is brilliant, loads of water and no sweet stuff at all. I finally feel like I have control over my life health wise.
Thanks for everything. I will get in touch again when I have lost some more - hopefully it wont be too long before I reach my target.
